The Adventures of Harry Stevenson by Ali Pye

Join this small guinea pig on his very BIG adventures in a brand-new illustrated fiction series from author and illustrator Ali Pye

'A sweet, funny book that really made me want to eat dandelions' - Holly Webb

'Sweetly funny and beautifully illustrated' - The i newspaper Meet Harry Stevenson. He doesn't live in a castle, or a witch's cottage, or anywhere exciting like that. His home is in a flat with seven-year-old Billy and his mum and dad. And at first glance, Harry doesn't seem any different from your average guinea pig. He has ginger fur and sparkly black eyes and likes nothing more than snacking on a piece of broccoli. But don't be fooled! Harry may just want to sleep and eat (and then eat some more) but somehow he always manages to get swept up in adventures: whether it's surfing the Pacific on a picnic plate or accidentally attaching himself to a helium balloon.

Two humorous tales of friendship and adventure told from the guinea pig’s point of view. We meet Harry who may seem like a normal guinea pig but he does seem to end up in no end of trouble, mainly due to his greedy nature. The first story sees him being left behind when the Smith’s move house, while the second is about how he gets swept away (literally) at Billy’s birthday party. Will he manage to make it back to Billy? These are funny, heartwarming tales with a simple plot and beautiful illustrations. I think children in upper KS1/lower KS2 are going to adore Harry and his adventures.

Pupil Review:

It's about a guinea pig called Harry Stevenson, he is very mischievous. Harry gets lost when The Smiths move house. He has to chase their van and gets into lots of trouble on the way. My favourite bit is when The Smiths open the pizza box and Harry is inside of it. I would (if someone was reading it to them) recommend this to children aged 5 +. If they were reading it by themselves I would recommend it to children aged 6-10 years. I have given this book 5/5 stars because the illustrations are amazing and it is really, really funny.
