Set in Victorian Edinburgh this is a dark MG murder mystery. The main character is a bright, brave and caring young orphan called Zinnie, who will do anything to protect her orphan 'sisters' (Sophie and Nell). While helping Arthur Conan Doyle, Zinnie begins to investigate the mystery of a ghost and the severed ears. Upon discovering a new 'sister' (Aelfine) and her pet Ruby, Zinnie is determined to uncover the truth. As I said at the beginning, this is quite dark, so will not appeal to everyone, but with suspense and action throughout this book - I will definitely be recommending this to upper KS2.
